This registered twin ram lamb is one of our favorite rams this year. This ram's sire was sold to top breeders in Missouri and Georgia and was from Oregon. His mother is a large framed ewe with great hooves and great prolificacy. Not only does he have nice EBV's for maternal traits, but he also has nice growth and great FEC EBV's as well. He is built very well and also has black hooves.
He was raised by the ewe on grass only after a few weeks, prior to that they received hay. No grain ever. Their mother lambed as a ewe lamb with twins, then had twins (whcih were some of my nicest lambs ever), and then quads this year. All four lambs survived and never had any supplementation. The only downside to this ram is his mother had mastitis, although her udder is still productive and she raised her lambs right through it. She has never contracted mastitis during weaning though. She has never lost a lamb.
He has some very nice PR, nice growth, good maternal traits, and a fantastic frame and mothering instincts. This ewe would keep her lambs close through raising them and was an exceptional mother. Additionally, he has one copy of the OPP resistance gene.
We have actually thought about keeping him as a replacement for his sire who we sold, but if he can improve someone else's flock, we would be happy to see him improve the breed.
