Our ewes are very prolific, for example, the ewe pictured above has weaned 300% average lamb crops over the first 5 years of her life. Many of our ewes have triplets consistently and a large majority are consistent twinners.
We seldom deworm adult ewes, in fact, during a span of 5 years, we dewormed less than 5 adult ewes. Also, many of our ewes do not need hoof trimming, and we are striving to increase those genetics.
In addition, our ewes are very hardy. They will graze in snow, some will even turn down alfalfa hay to eat grass, even if it is covered in frost and snow. We give them shelter to escape the rain and the snow, but many would simply prefer to be outside. Their thick winter coats give them the warmth they need as long as they are fairly dry. (Not covered in rain, they will simply shake off the snow.) Our ewes are treated well, given what they need, but we definitely admire our hardy ewes.
