Well, it is finally here: Lambing Season! This is always such a fun time of year as you get to see what lambs you'll have, and when you are using new sires, it adds to the excitement!
Our neighbor's flock, which we help manage the genetics and breeding stock sales began lambing about two weeks ago with a nice healthy set of twins out of a first timer! Perfect! Less than two weeks later, we get this fun surprise: a nice, healthy set of quads! The ewe accepted them well and is nursing them well; they are quite happy. Hopefully, she will raise all of them as she has already accepted all of them and is nursing all of them on a regular basis. This ewe is a three year old who previously had two sets of triplets. Yes, you read that right, she is three years old and has had 10 lambs... I think her prolifacy is pretty good! She raises nice, structurally correct lambs, we will see how these ones do. The top three in the picture above are ram lambs, and the pinto colored is a ewe lamb, fun when you can get neat color in a ewe lamb, especially when it just happens because you don't breed for it.
Our main flock begins lambing April 1st, contact us now to get on the waiting list for your next herd sire.
